Census Day 2020

April 1, 2020

Today is National Census Day which means citizens of Illinois have a once-in-a-decade opportunity to be counted. In a state that’s been losing many thousands of residents annually in recent years, it’s essential that those of us who continue to live here register, since census data is a major factor in determining where and how federal funds for a wide array of programs are distributed to states. In fact, Illinois stands to lose approximately $1400 per year for each person missed in the 2020 census.

The Economic Club of Chicago, in coordination with other city organizations, has compiled essential information that employers can pass along to their employees in promotion of participating in the census. The guide includes a toolkit from the City of Chicago designed to facilitate streamlined company-wide communication, featuring e-mail templates, social media graphics and content, and a guide to answering questions about the census. See the toolkit here:

This year, to comply with the current with shelter-in-place guidelines, the census will be conducted online. Please encourage your employees, friends, and family to register at https://my2020census.gov/. There is strength in numbers, so #makeyourselfcount.
